This is the basic start position for all Tai Chi. Tai Chi Stance belongs to the training method known as Zhan Zhuang, which literally means "standing post" or standing meditation. It is a training method in which static postures are held to develop correct structural alignment and deep levels of relaxation.

It is an important training method in all styles of Tai Chi and is a form of Qigong.
